This scenario is one of the most bizarre things I have every seen that is related to rays.

Keep your water clean and your rays should be fine.

Good luck,

Colin

Amazing..

so did you observe an awkward behavior by the other rays.. as if they were aware that their friend was injured or in need of help?.. Makes you wonder if rays have an extra sensory or communication ability we are oblivious to..

Permission to use the pix and write an article for the website?
Miles, by all means you can use the pictures. i didn't notice the females go after the spine only the other male and it wasn't like he was attacking the male he wanted the spine sticking out.

LOL
You might be right, i don't have a clue. I have noticed he isn't using the spiracle on that side or i should say it isn't opening as much as the other side. I will have to watch this.

Here is a pic of the wound, which another 24 hrs. and it looks really good, also here is a pic of the male that got the spine out. It seems as if he is even using both spiracles equally. Whoever said rays are resilient i'm sure had no idea they were this resilient. I thought there was a good chance he might not make it but he is looking and acting as normal as you could imagine. :headbang2
