They are slow growers. I've had mine for about 5 years and bought him at less than 2". He's about 12" now. The growth rate did increase once it was pellet trained.

I have not had an IT so I can not tell you first hand that one is better than the other. I can tell you my NTT is pretty much always stable. I actually have him in a tank by himself at the moment.

What is his tankmates? Does NTT have better stability?
They can get a little dark,and when they do,I believe it is due to some kind of stress,but they rarely have the stability issues that are common in indos.

I like them both too, both impressive when big & healthy..I would say overall I like the bars and the varients of the bars better with IT's, but like the gold far better on mature NTT's
