I wouldn't feed beef heart. Especially as a staple. They need to eat non-mamalian stuff.
If you want them to grow quickly, feed them a mixture of dried krill, frozen mysis shrimp, *occasionally* frozen or FD bloodworms, and some NLS garlic pellets (to get them used to the flavor, for future pellet training). I put them all together in a little fish medicine measuring cup about an hour before feeding, drop in a couple drops of vitachem, and let it sit on top of the tank light so it'd melt. Once it's melted I'd stir it up into what I call baby slush and then feed it to the fish.
I was amazed how fast the babies grew, and didn't understand why people called them slow-growing fish, at least for the first 6'' or so.
