Hehe, "Only" 24-30".... its making my girlfriend very nervous, that our little 20cm cute fish is going to be such a beast.

Well last night, my girlfriend and I decided that old knifey was way too cute to let go of... and we gonna do our best to get a 84" X 35" X 30".
I dont really know how big that would be in gallons though as you have mentioned needing 180 gallons... ( I usually work in litres ).

Anyone know what the useable volume of water in that would be?

84 x 30 x 36 would be 380 gallons... Going by capacity is sometimes deceptive because shape (foot print) is a lot more importiant than the actual capacity.

Hi , i keep a 16" little clown knife in a 110" 48" 24" he is very happy in that, but i think if the tank was 30" high it would have been better. So i sugest that you take the 6" off the 36" height and add it to the width or length.

380 gallons? Very nice for a clown knife! Give it some cool tankmates, too. Wolf you are right, the dimensions are more important than the gallons, but I go by gallons because I have almost no clue about the dimensions of most fish tanks, I just go by gallons.

aaah.. i got my dimensions ordered incorrectly..

what i meant with my tank size was 80L X 36W X 30H

going 36" high would just be a waste of money for me as the price seems to go up madly with the extra height / weight...

I have this figure (36" Width) in my head because of all the kind peeps who have replied to this post so far :)

Height, i think the knifefish will have to suffice with 30" high... which is going to be about 3X his fully grown height... as going up from that is going to cost way too much at this stage :D

To be really honest here...The tank your ordering is easilly three times larger than what most people keep a clown in for life so I wouldnt sweat the 6 extra inches in depth...lol.

Glad you posted about this :)
I've been planning on getting a CK also and been trying to find a good size tank to put one in. Now at least I know they need something at least 36w to really give them the space to move around.

I think a CK would be fin e in a 300g starndard (96" x 30" x 24") for life.

Good luck with getting your tank. I would advise going as wide as you can in the space available, you won't regret it.
