Here
It's ultraviolet radiation that causes increased pigment. I've read is very bad for their eyes. And I agree with T1

There is strong negative responses towards tanning....so far on this thread. I also dont brother with tanning... As i think it can't be good for the fish. I know most of the pics of the asian aro from asia look crazy good with the tanning lights ...and i often think if i use them i would be cheating a little to achieve a desired effect on the aro.
Instead i just use flourescent lamps held 3 inches off the top of the cover glassses.
Just normal lighting will allow the aro to look amazing..... But not amazing in a fake way like with tan lights

The main reason people tan red aro is because they can't wait for the colour to develop naturally
Reds can take over 5 years to develop full colour

You should never tan a gold aro example xback cross back red tail gold HBRTG

It's only reds tanning is used on something people don't understand

Ways to change the look of Asian aro

Gold cross back = white tank treatment

Red = tanning

So a red will develop red eventually whether it's tanned or not? So it will look just as good without tanning but you just have to wait longer for it to color up?
