FunWow you mentioned that you removed foam..maybe this is the reason why your filter is still alive? :)

it would be interesting to make a survey about fx filters failing - could be because of too much foam? Foam clogs, reduces flow, makes negative impact on pump which burns out? Something to test in future :)

You see plenty of threads on pronlrms with FX fi filters. None on 2260 / 2262. The smaller 306 etc Fluvals are great. Just the FX has issues.

Ive had fx6 running on a 150g for almost 2 years... not a huge bio load... just a pair of umbee's but water is always clear.. just do my weekly water changes... i just have matrix in all 3 baskets and clean it out once a month

Ive heard good things about the oddysea cfs500. Its an fx knockoff. Costs about $50-60. If it lasts 2 years and the fx only lasts a few years, guess who came out ahead?

Im becoming much friendlier with the idea of inexpensive Chinese knockoffs. If the good stuff has problems, and the cheap stuff has problems. ... why pay more?

Thats why you buy most reliable, even it costs a small fortune ;) flood every few years, destroyed floor, failing filters, god forbid losing fishes because of that,... i cant afford it ;)

ktrom13 is right - correctly designed sump is the most suitable for large tanks :) and safest :)

I've never had an ehiem so I can't comment. I have had three different fx5's at different times with a total of about ten years service. I've yet to have a single problem. Are they as good as an ehiem? Most would say no, but I wouldn't hesitate to but another fx.
