i have an arowana...albino cat...oscar....lima catfish....and a pacu....is it bad if i catch these small cichlids in this one lake i saw and put them in my tank? any risk of contamination and disease? i don't know what kind of cichlid but they are really nice

Are you sure they are cichlids? You live in Colorado, and chances are they are not cichlids cuz the winters there are WAY to cold for any cichlids or tropical fish for that matter to survive. Probably blue gill or something along those lines. There is a risk of introducing disease. If you DO catch some of the fish and put them in your tank, you can NEVER release them again. Reason for this is because you will introduce them to things they normally wouldn't incounter in the wild, like diseases and what not. Since some of them aren't as common in the wild, reintroducing them back into the wild has the chance of releasin the diseases into the wild as well, which could be VERY detrimental to the environment.
There are tons of members that catch fish and put them in their tankz with their other fish. So i don't think there will be that big of a problem.

I strongly recommend against it, for many reasons. Here are the main two. I guess considering the weight of point 2, this might be the end of your question.

- legally, I am sure you need a fishing permit and obey minimum size rules
- You're in CO, these are coldwater fish. Your tank sounds like a tropical set-up. That is not compatible.
hmm i wanna know from someone that personally have done it....i ate these fishes before so it might be okay
Point #2 was what I was trying to get across to you....you live in Colorado...they are not Tropical fish...will not be happy in your tank. Straight up. If you set up a native tank, then yeah, its possible. Most of the members that catch their fish from the wild either live in Florida or one of the warmer southern states where there ARE cichlids, or they have a native tank set up.
Cichlids are tropical fish, and the water in colorado or most anywhere in the US is not tropical, but rather coldwater.
2nd there is always a chance of contamination and even agressiveness. if you must do so, make sure you ahve a quarentine tank, let them sit in it for a few weeks, and then try putting them in with the others, but keep a close on behavior...
