Cannister filter for 150gal tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
let's stop fightin and just give this poor man some simple advice about a filter.:jaw:

Seriously who is fighting? Not me or HarleyK all we are doing is expressing a difference of opinion - neither one is upset or fighting, insulting, belittling, condescending, etc...
Honestly I feel we both contributed some of the best threads on this subject thus far with real information and facts for others to benefit....

We are still on topic too.....

I will disengage from the thread if it is viewed differently by others...

the egos on the filters will never stop everybody has to be right and doesnt care about the person who needs the help. savage your best bet for ease of maintence would be a sump filter look on ebay you can find real good deals on wet drys. canister filters will be more of a pain on maintence but if you have a sump its just replace the mechanical pad. i dont even shut mine down when i remove the pads. i run wet drys on most of my tanks now. i got tired of breaking canisters down every few months to replace pads or clean them. i hope this helps you. there are plenty of threads on diy overflows and links to good places to get them.

I agree  . To be honest, I enjoy the challenge. Ducati and others have good and valid points, and the purpose of this discussion is to provide the original poster and other readers with both sides, pros and cons, to make an educated decision. All this happens in a respectful manner

ps:
I actually would like an old car. 60s American muscle. No new "retro" design or recycled name (T-Bird, Charger) can live up to the originals.

That's simply BS. see above

I was careful to say a twenty year old car :) that would make it a 1986 - I dont recall any good ones then (just kidding)

Of course the 1960's are in a class all by themselves -

I think we offered as much as could be offered on the topic between the two threads.
Including excellent prices - so the original poster wins out either way plus learns that
the wet/dry is another viable option we all didnt consider earlier.....I like the fact that you dont have to shut down to clean or service the inside of it - that can be a huge advantage over canisters across the board....

This has been an interesting thread to say he least. I have enjoyed the information you all have provided. I think now i am going to look into a sump filter so i know i have covered all my bases. Space is an issue for me right now so im not sure thats the way to go, but i will never know until i check it out.

I've got an eheim 2250 on my 125, I like its work. Solid, simple build, no leaks and its been running for two months without needing a cleaning. But.....

That said, its RIDICULOUS that eheim does not ship quick disconnect valves with it stock. I got the filter for 199, and had to pay another 60 bucks for a set of disconnects, that probably cost 5-10 bucks to manufacture. I run the filter with an in wall setup, so its impossible to pull all the hosing out of the water everytime I clean it, and frankly I think its insulting that eheim expects me to make such a mess with their default setup.
