Are CO2 tanks absolutely necessary to have a sucessful planted tank?

Anybody ever see a planted tank that looked good without a CO2 tank?

A cheaper option is to generate Do-It-Yourself CO2 using yeast and a plastic bottle. You can find the recipe in aquaticquotient.com's FAQ section. The DIY system is not recommended for tanks longer than 3 ft.

You can have a decent looking, low light planted tank without CO2. But using CO2 opens up alot more options. But without CO2, I would recommend Cryptocorynes(Crypts), java ferns, java moss, and other low light plants. Also, a successful looking planted aquarium is different for everyone. That is why I like my nasty looking tank

My plants grow just as good without CO2... Well maybe almost as good.

my annibius is getn a brown fur/algae on the leaves...any ideas whats causing it?
