My 1100 gal DIY tank to be.

On the topic of the sump. Do you (any, all or none) think I can do the dual inlets to the sump from the ends (red) (the inspiration tank has this). I realy want to setup the waterfall in the middle (green) even it it is just a portion of the return water.

sure, just a matter of plumbing
the waterfall sounds cool

since this is new construction, don't even think of not putting the filtration/water changing in the same room, build on a "wet" room behind this monster and it will be 100% easier to service, plus all plumbing is hidden from view and you don't need to listen to the hum of pumps and equipment. put in a sink with RODI some extra tanks and QT tanks and a small window for your convenience. probably be good to do a exhaust fan too. for humidity. If at all possible do a floor drain there too for spills and simple waterchanges. with new construction you want to maximize the potential or kick yourself later for not doing it to begin with.
there are great companies that will come to your location and assemble a beast like this for you in the room so you can have it right accross from your kitchen or whatever you like and not in a garage, or wherever it was convenient.

i like the idea of keeping the tank wider intead of taller. 4 feet is a long way to reach for aquascaping :)

one last suggestion, instead of 1 "big azz" pump why not 2 "large" pumps. just a little duplication/redundancy, a little backup in case some pump failure occurs.

very nice idea... bring your dreams to life :)
keep us posted on progress.

oh, can you list the materials used and maybe a cost breakdown?

Once I finalize the design & start buying materials I will have everthing detailed for all to see, then anyone will be able to use the ideas for themselves (as/if they like) I will start a new thread then besause this one will likely be lost by then. Remember, I need to buy a house first.. (I am renting, & the LL has been kind enough already, besides I don't want to give this tank away.)

I am sill working on a new layout for simpler aquascapes.

here is a link to the inspiration tank.

no full pics but is is a fantastic tank.

They claim it is 2 feet wide but that's outside, it is actually more like 20~21 inside.

sounds like a good idea if it were me i would figure 4ft wide and 30 high then you could keep arrowanna and rays. keep posted of progress when you get a house

I am thinking that the only way you are going to be able to service that aquarium is by taking a swim and with the width being 2ft it seems like it would just be way easier for you to service if you went like 30x36 instead.

4 feet of hight is great but instead of 4 ft of tank hiegh you could jsut have the stand be a foot taller for almost the same effect.

I just visited my inspiration tank tonight. It is well serviced without scuba gear. it is only 20 inches inside.

So if I make the tank 3 feet high & the stand 3 feet, then it will still be 6 feet high? dang ...

There is still the issue of wasted material.. The raw material is 48 x 96 to a 3 foot panel would be 1 foot of wasted material. The botom woulf tawke 2 full sheets rather than 1.

Perhaps I should make it 4 foot by 4 foot on the ends?

arghhh.... back to the drawing board again ....
