I just picked it up last night from my neighbor. It has a 2 piece glass bottom that leaks in the front where the two pieces of glass come together. How should I fix that? It has a ton of clear silicone in the middle where the two pieces of glass join. This guy tried to fix it.

Other than that, it is a nice tank. Overflow on the left side and all.

Should I take out the bottom and reseal it?

In the past I have removed old silicone on leakers with a razor blade, cleaned with alcohol, and resealed with new GE brand Silicone 1. Don't think you would need to remove the bottom, unless I'm missing something here.:D

Yup. I agree with the above who agreed with the above him. :grinyes: I've cleaned out the old silicone several times and replaced with no problems at all.

Nice! So basically razor off the silicone on the bottom of the glass and then the top... seal it up and thats it?

I will try that. I didnt know that aquariums were built with 2 bottom pieces of glass. That kind of worries me.

Ya well that sound scary t me too :) Is there support from the frame? Does the cross brace run under these pieces?

Also old Silicone tends to leave a residue U want to razor that off too.. This can be gruelling but welll worth it... And to get the excess clumps out quicker douse a rag with acetone or aceton product like Finger nail polish remover and you'll figure that out pretty quik :)

Only Clean out the silicone inside the tank... And get it all.. Reseal the whole inside. Or you will fill it up and have yourself another leak:)

And final suggetion After siliconing and lettin set over nigh... Then fill it up outside your house so you don't get really frusatrated if it fails:)

Here was the last one i did and it is in my living room! :) Step by step..:) Hope it helps..

can you post a pic of the bottom ??

it sorta scares me too that its 2 pieces ...

Okay; I say clean all the seams (inside) with a razor, get a 2 inch wide strip of glass for the bottom seam & put it on with silly-cone (overlap 1 inch each side) & re-seal everything. Butt-Joints suck to re-seal. :swear: but the strip should make it easier.

Is that back corner broken out where the over-flow is? :WHOA: it looks like there is a break-out.

from the pics it looks do-able. good luck.
