Prime: How much can I use?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think the bottle says that you can safely use up to 5 times the normal dose for high nitrites doesn't it?

I saw that, but I am thinking that using five times the dose of any chemical to reduce high nitrites is better than high nitrites. I just wanted to check opinions. I am sure any company would like you to use 5 times the recommended dose of their product, that equals more sales. I believe that seachem does have the hobbyists best interest in mind though.

On the sock question, I would say go with whatever color matches that Picasso stain in your undies today.

If the stain in my undies looked like a Picasso, I would sell them on ebay.

actually I think that seachem is one of the few companies that cares alot about their customers. I have visited a few forums that you can actually talk to a seachem rep. they are very helpful when ever I have needed any advice about the products they carry..

The true question stands if prime de-toxifies Nitrates then should you need to do any water changes at all? and should it matter what the level of nitrates are?

Use Prime at higher levels when your tank is messed up and you can't change water every day, or when you come home to dying fish and you need to detox WHILE you change the water, or when you suspect high chlorine levels in the water (our water district cleaned the pipes last year with a huge increase in chlorine, and chlorine levels are often increased after a big rain to keep the bacteria count down).

Can I get a quantity discount?

no chemical no matter how many times the normal dose you can use is "safe" its not really smart to do. bottom line is its a chemical and chemicals stress out fish and lead to disease and other problems. just do small water changes daily till the levels are acceptable, and as you go to add in the new h2o add a bit of prime to it before you put it into the tank. with patience you should be able to get the levels under control
