bellevue, ne
two days ago i went and bought a floating 3 way breeder from petsmart and got 2 males and 4 female guppys. 3 of the females died today and the other are doing just fine, they are in my display tank any ideas why they may have died? i did attach the breeder to the side of the tank so it wouldnt go get stuck to my filter, but i doubt that had anything to do with it.

Petsmart is probably the problem, most don't take to good of care of their fish.

I got a bad case of planaria with guppies from petsmart. wiped out my entire breeding stock of guppies.

Did you put all those fish in the breeder trap?Males can harass females to death if not enough room, hiding spots or females in the tank

that sucks.. sorry to hear man.

Unfortunatly most petstores don´t have the fishes in good conditions, some won't even aclimate them when they arrive because they aren´t specialized in fishes.
They try to have all kinds of different animals and than can't give them all the best conditions and atention. It's sad but its true.

there is some salt in the water but its not brackish. do you think that 2 males and 4 females have enough room in a 2.5 gal tank?

p.s. i bought some new ones one of which was very pregnant and today i have some fry. i fed one to my angel fish and it was eaten quickly. i think im going to try and raise these.

should i worry about inbreeding if im raising feeders.
