why oh why did my guppys die

I got a bad case of planaria with guppies from petsmart. wiped out my entire breeding stock of guppies.

I have suspicion that the guppies carried by majority of the 'chain' stores are transhipped through Asia, along with their Angelfish.. A recent Q&A in TFH leads me to believe that their is a viral issue with a majority of these 2 species that is widespread and brought in from the Orient.. Centrally filtrated system with shared waters passes this disease, and it is believed to be un-curable.

I would highly reccomend seeking out quality stock through local breeders and LFS, or atleast have a rigirous quarantine process with the use of Acriflavine and Saltwater baths.

i never had any problems with the petsmart fish by me, but i usually (usually lol) never see dead fish in there tanks. i think im going to an aquarium pet store to get my cichlids and other fish. but i got a betta that gave ich to all my danios and guppies. i only had 3 danios and 3 cory cats that lived (only had 3 cory cats) all my guppies died though. oh well now i have 6 danios, the original three cory cats and a big ol goldfish in my 20 gallon.
