Changing water in a MONSTER tank... Questions?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yea... i think they should be fine for a few hours...

just invest in a large pump...:D

So I hook up the inlet of the pump to the spigot?
no, It will fill the same as your spigot can supply, just hook the hose to the spigot (otherwise you'll burn up the pump).
You can get a massive holding tank for water changes, and use your pump to refill that way.

I use the same basic premise.. An eheim 1200 gph pump attached to a python hose to drain the tank. Then I drop the pump into my rubbermaid tubs of aged water to fill the tanks back up

This is even better.. quickly filling your tank up with tap water is bad for your fish. The exchange of gasses really stress them out.

I would REALLY have a hard tome to get my wife to let me have a 300g container laing around for water changes. It was hard enough to get her to agree to getting a 600 instead of the 300 I was supposed to get.

In Hawaii he dont have clorine in the water, so I have been just adding water from the tap.

if you want to drain fast just go get some 1.5" corugated hose from the hardware store and use that to siphon. it is a lot cheaper than a mag pump for all the more youll use it for

I am having this problem also.. I have the tubs crammed in my laundry room and there is very little room to do laundry now... :screwy:

I spend every other day doing 50% water changes and my sump is off for a couple hours, but i always have other canister filter's running, and i have never had a problem, but mind you this is on a 240.

the pump idea in the tank works awesome! BUT you still need to vacuum it, so depending, you can always start the pump, and use your python for cleaning up at the same time, to speed things up, will drain quite fast, used to do it on a 500gal pond all the time as well.
