Chances are you'll get better info on here concerning what they'll eat than what they'd tell you at the fish store. I am sure it's possible to get them to eat pellets, but I've never had luck with it. Mine primarily ate frozen meaty foods and live BW.

then ill hold off on the knifefish until next may
thats when i can go pick up live and frozen food myself because now i wouldnt have frequent rides out to get stuff.
thats too expensive for right now, i will hold off on the african brown unless i see it eat pellets or flake.
I dont think you should hold off on it. Mine will accept freeze dried krill. And you can get that at most fish stores. Just put it in the water and squeeze all the air out of it so that it sinks.
Here he is. He does not take pellets. He also takes Live cut earthworms, small guppies and ghost shrimp and frozen brine shrimp and mysis.
cichlids like the krill to dont they? i would just get some of those and feed the cichlids at night and the knifefish at night since i think there nocturnal anyways
Oh no the one at the way left is a zig-zag eel rescued from a former 10 gallon. Sadly I was forced to throw him in there. The middle though is a tire track. When I got the tire track he was as big as the zig zag but now is double the size. Though for its size the zig zag is pretty fat. BTW there are no fights with any of them and the African knife. Though I tryed throwing a big black ghost and my african kept fighting him back. So no mixing with other knifes besides its own kind.
Cichlids will eat anything they can fit in their mouths. My girlfriend has some and anything that hits the water is gone within a second or two. You'll just have to make sure the cichlids don't hog all the food...
