55g vs. 40g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The 55 gallon is better than the 40.

However, if you can afford it get a 75, it is still 4 feet long but you get 18" in width instead of 12".
yea the 75 gallon is a really good tank, because of the width, my biggest tank now is a 55 gallon. but i love it. its going to be for small cichlids like firemouths, and severums and stuff like someone already said. i like long tanks. i dont like short really tall tanks, the fish always look cramped in those.

I think if your going to have larger fish you may not be able to stock it as heavy but the extra width will allow for longer fish. Stocking ideas is one of the hardest things to suggest all of it is up to you. I am sure you already have ideas on what you want to put in. I always think its better to decide on your fish before you decide on your tank. That way you have what you want all round.

the fish wont be too much longer because its only 3 feet long. the fish would be swimming back and fourth alot

48 x 13 = 624 square inches of floor space.

36 x 18 = 648 square inches of floor space.

Get the 40.

breeder

I'd go with the wider tank. I have 50 gal breeder that's 36x18x20 and I have a couple of JDs, 3 RedDevils, an Oscar, and a pleco in there.
