What do you think about the seat belt laws?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think everyone (ok, a lot of people) is missing the point. We all know that it is "good" to wear a seatbelt.
The question is, why is it a law? Is it a legitimate law? Who are you hurting (physically) if you dont wear a seatbelt?
Is it a way to make a quick buck?

motor cycles are a hazard in urban areas and citys

theryre best used in the country or on the highway
YES because you people in cars cant see them
Marines shouldnt have to wear seatbelts if they dont want to. Theyre willing to die for stupid causes such as Bush, they can die however they shall please.
I must say i have to agree with that.

I would also like to add that the people that fight for MY freedom deserve more respect, no matter who they "answer to"

Yeah, it was really out there.

What makes Marines better than anybody else?

I'm the kind of person that's under the impression that the government was supposed to impose itself as little as possible in our lives. So I don't think it's really a legitimate law.

again you critisize my intelligence because of a prefference.. This has nothing to do with being stupid IT'S A CHOICE I MAKE.. I don't need you telling me that your smarter than me because you use a seatbelt.. As for the statistics they just prove my opinion that it does not justify a law. I am not saying that the 190 lives were worthless but they made a choice and that is OUR FREEDOM and left wing people like you think that they can make my mind up for me.. What would you think if your house was burglarized while the cop that should have been there was waisting his time writing a petty seat belt ticket?? I bet you would be pissed.. It's a waste of law enforcment time catching REAL CRIMINALS.. And as I stated before its all for money, they could care less about you dying in a car accident..

Actually I'm not politically inclined. I( could care less about your left or right. I'm not a republican or a democrat I'm an American. And both parties can kiss my ass.

I criticize your intelligence because it is only common sense that has been backed by numerous studies that seat belts save lives. Just your small example that 190 people out of 400 that died could have been saved had they been wearing their belt. That means you have 45% less chance of dieing in a car wreck. thats basic math and common sense should tell you that any chance you can possibly have at walking away from a car wreck is worth wearing the belt.
Now multiply that by 50 states. That’s 9500 people that could be live today if only they had worn their belts.
They didn't get tickets for not having their seatbelts on. They simply died.

And then you have all the accidents that don't result in death. But rather someone getting paralized or losing a limb or other that lived but because they got flung around and destroyed their bodies. Could have been avoided by simply buckling up. Its soo simple. so so so simple.

What’s this silly talk about my house being burglarized? Dude re-read that statement and tell me how a cop that would not have been at my house to begin with would stop someone from breaking into it? That’s just not realistic and really has no bearing on this "debate"
And more so that really has nothing to do with the reason of why you should wear the belt in the first place.
I'm not talking about the legality of wearing it. I'm talking about the mortality of not wearing it and needing it. Plain and simple.

Plus why would I be pissed at the cop anyhow? I would be pissed at the dip**** that wasn’t wearing his seatbelt and forced a cop to write him a ticket for being too stupid to know that he should wear it.
Regardless of what ulterior motives you may feel the government may have by making it a law. The bottom line is this law ultimately serves to protect you. Sometimes from yourself. Its just sad that they have to make what should come as common sense into a law.
There are other laws that are comming to action that actually do infringe on your rights as an american to persue life liberty and happyness. And you are more concerned with this law that is really here to allow you to continue those persuits after a car wreck.

I'm with you Ben. I think the law is bogus. I dont think that seatbelts are wrong, I think the law is:grinyes:

ok maybe not "wrong" but its flawed.

How is it flawed? you click your belt when you get in your car. you unclick it when you get out. Do that and theres no problem and you will never get that ticket.

I dont think you should get a ticket because you dont wear a seatbelt. If you get in a car, its up to you if you want that seatbelt to work for you or not.

Sorry bout the marine comment, I have 2 friends in the marines, they love it, but they dont believe in what they are fighting for, (bush). Whether we went into Iraq or not, it wouldnt affect the US in significant ways. Bush wants oil and thats it.

backto seatbelts, the first accident I was in, my friend didnt wear his seatbelt, I did, both our airbags went off, but he got messed up.

:D

I think we should also take into account how many people are actually familiarized with the law. What percentage of the population knows that they have to "click it or ticket". ahahha, what a stupid line.

Oh, there's a law in Rhode Island that makes it illegal to spill pickle juice on a trolley car. (We have trolley buses that cart people around Providence by the way.)

Blacksunshine420. Just because there's a law for something doesn't mean it's correct. What's the 420 in your name for. I'm just a wee bit curious :naughty: :grinno:
