Need ideas for this huge sump!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Anyway im gonna try and get the filtration going on it this weekend. I gotta make sure it is a bullet proof design because i dont want to lose any rays over it. And i also gotta make sure it isnt gonna flood my house being its going in my living room and not in the basement as origanlly planned.

Is it going to be a centerpiece or against a wall?

Talk about a conversation piece!!! WOW!

with that size sump you could have part of it full of bioballs or pot scrubbies and part of it being a refugium, grow plants...low nitrates.

The whole center of it could be a refugium. Use flourite as a substrate and load it with plants and 12-24 hour lighting. Almost 0 nitrates. Thats what I am setting up. The bio balls could go between the baffles, use a foam or sponge to keep the bio balls from being completely submerged.

I was thinking about doing a refugium, i have one on my reef tank and it works great. It almost works to good, im constantly pulling the algae out of it.
And yes the tank will be a center peice i was thinking baout putting a glass top on it and using it as a table.

;)

Been busy working on getting my new place, we are hoping to close this week. I finally had some time to test the tank and sump. This is the first time ive had water in it, the pump turned out to be a little bit more than the overflow could handle so i dremeled out a few of the teeth. I'm gonna be working on the drip plate this week, as well as the glass lid. I plan on adding bioballs to the overflow and scrubbie pads to the sump.

Ive decided to wait on putting rays in this thing till i know its gonna support life. So for the winter im going to house my moms goldfish, from her pond. Plus this will give the tank plenty of time to cycle.

Heres a cpl pics of it running in the garage. Like i mentioned this was just a test to make sure it will hold and not leak before moving it into my dining room. Still lots to do but its definetley gonna be a monster!

Sweet. It'll make a one of a kind table. Keep an eye out for a glass table top from craigslist.com or Goodwill. Ditch the base and you are good to go. A Goodwill here has two, one for thirty dollars and another for sixty. Cant go wrong with that.
