Most people just left with a gift certificate.

totally agree ... if you want to get someone a fish for their tank, do it with a gift certifiicate ... surest way to avoid a mistake ...

So I noticed that one of the return lines was sucking air in their sump. So I let one of the guys working there know. He looks at me and goes its fine that's not a big a deal and keeps talking to his friend

lol, my brother bought a venazuelan red belly from big als. it was labelled "red belly piranha" now any piranha keeper should know you shouldnt sell vens as normal natteris soo i have a 40 and this guy gets like 14 inches lol compared to about 10 and he told my bro they could live alone nirmal red bellys need schoals but this kind doesnt need them as they destroy ANYTHING in your tank including your heater and filter lol. my brother and i went there last week and the "red bellys" that arent real rb's shouldnt be together were together all missing eyes with about 40 of them dead and 15 or so half alive this was your normal fish store 20 gal. poor things really. and another story my local walmart had called their oscars freshwater clown fish and their senagal birchirs gian sea monsters lollol
their apple snails were called alien crabs? go figure walmart. So now im stuck with my sarasalmus cariba or however you spell it lol but i love him.

i gotta love the typical questions all petcos and petsmarts ask; how big is your tank? how long has it been set up? thinking to myself" seriously? youre gonna ask me that?!?!?" i let tem tell me all about my new clown loaches. first they said, 72-78, nonwonder why they have so much ich :( then she told me they only get 5 inches or so and the 5 will live their whole life in a 29 gallon just fine. i guess its not her fault though, shes only telling me what the corporation taught her!!!

^^ actually the corporation doesn't even tell that much, so most information given that's wrong is just pulled out of the workers Ar$e at the time of sale, fortunately most of my co-workers have enough basic knowledge not to completely give somebody the wrong info

When stores ask me about what size tank I say "big enough". They seem to not be expecting that answer, and don't say anything after that.

it annoys me when people say 'big enough' because most of the time it is not even close to what they need, yet they act like they are superior to 'lowly fishroom staff' but sorry if you wont tell me how big of a tank you have for even a somewhat large growing fish your not getting it. sorry for the rant but it happens all the time and dealing with rude people all day can wear a person down

only real LFS stores have asked me what size tanks i have. no one in Petsmart or Petco has ever asked, no matter what fish i purchased. now i don't even go into the aquarium section except to buy specific things that i can't get either from MFK members or real LFS's.

Petco, or Petsmart could care less about what size tank I have, so they have no right to be asking me.. That's why I tell them big enough.

I have tanks from 5gallons to 300 gallons. And I don't get fish that I can't house full grown to begin with.

I have to agree with this. I get it all the time. Any sort of general answer tends to be pretty annoying. How long has the tank been set up? A while. In my experience this usually means a month.
