It should hold right? maybe? I think...having second thoughts.

I am setting up a 210g (71x24x29) and will be bracing my joists for my own peace of mind. I have 2x10's every 2ft on center with 1 1/8 T&G OSB. The tanks weight would rest on two of these in particular since it runs in-line with them. The span is 10' between outer wall and a support beam. I think that it would hold the weight but I just want to be safe. I will probably sister a joist to each one with glue and screws. Maybe put in a few braces in between. Not a whole lot of money just a little time and I can feel safe.

Personally I would be scared if my house couldn't support 200lbs/sqft. That means that an average adult male wouldn't be able to stand on one foot without being in danger. As long as your stand has a solid bottom(as opposed to just resting on a few individual feet) then you should be fine. But to make the Mrs. happy I would stick something in the crawl space anyways.

Hello; I looked at the first post again and did not see the dimensions of the room, so will use a room of 12 feet by 20 feet. I suspect this is a fairly average sized room. I know that it is unlikely that someone would ever place 200 pounds on each square foot of a room, but the room would have to support 48,000 pounds if they did.

Another way to look at it. I have a boat that has held a 200+ pound friend without a problem, but it is rated for only a couple, maybe three, of those sized fellows in total.

It may also be that the tank will not be the only thing in the room. There may be furniture and other things, plus some number of people standing in front of the tank from time to time. I am not suggesting a load approaching 48,000 pounds, but a load of some size.

Should the OP decide to go ahead without additional support, I will be interested to know how it works out whichever way it goes. Please keep us posted.

Id say the room is roughly 15x20. Its a bonus room type deal. The tank will be the only furnature in the room besides maybe a table and lamp. I'm gonna crawl under there this weekend and have a look at the joists. If everything looks ok then I guess I'm just gonna cross my fingers and fill it up.

Has anyone ever had a tank go through the floor? Can someone point me to a place where this has ever happened? I'm not saying it couldn't happen, and maybe it has, but I've never heard of it happening.
