My new 125 gallon tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That is not even close to a pink tailed chalceus, I had the same fish and had no idea what it was for a while, It's a leptobarbus hoevenii: common names include mad barb, cigar shark, etc.
They get enormous in the wild (3'+), but typically reach a mere 18-24" in aquaria.

Mine has gone from 3-12" in about a year and since he hit ~9" forces down anything that hits the water until he's choking... then eats some more.

here's a big one:

I think it's a pink tailed chalceus, they look so similar and I thought it could possibly be a cigar shark, but i decided it was a pink tailed chalceus because it looked absolutely identical to the one I saw at my LFS.

Those first 2 pictures you posted look like the same species, so its very easy to confuse them

Alright I think your right, that means the OP is really in trouble if he has 4 fish that all grow over 2 feet long in just a 125

This whole setup is a stock disaster IMO.

Arowana- Definitely needs to go since he's going to get way to big for a 125g and I haven't heard OP say anything about plans to upgrade tanks specially since he just did. Apologies if he did talk about upgrading and I missed it.

Pacu- Needs to go for obvious reasons.

Mad Barb- Needs to go for obvious reasons.

Goldfish- Why??? They're cold water fish, and if they get eaten (likely) the only results are your other fish eating a goldfish which are fatty and provide poor nutrition.

Catfish- I don't know much at all about cats and can't comment on this one really but I do know most of them get big FAST and this one seems to be the biggest fish in the tank leading me to believe it's likely going to get way to big for this tank. Even if he does get big but not too big for the tank he's quite likely to eat anything else stocked in the tank.

African Cichlid- These are typically kept in large groups (aka african cichlid tanks) and as far as I know become quite aggressive outside of large groups. Not to mention they're not very aesthetically eye catching by themselves...

Eel- Again, don't know enough about this guy to comment but I did see a SW comment up there so I'm hoping this guys not SW or Brackish.

If you really wanted to keep such an odd stock in a tank it would easily have to be over 500g with the pacu in there. If I were you OP I'd bring back everything except the BP, get a solid stock list together of fish that interest you (with the help of the people on the forums here) and would be adequate in a 125g for life, and use the credit from the returned fish to get yourself that stock list. You really do have a lot of options with your new 125g but the current stock list is quite off track IMO.

Unknown fish=Golden Shark=Cigar Shark=Mad Barb (all the same thing)

and yes the catfish is a pangasius
