how do u make ur gar eat a shrimp or prawn my gar wont eat except live fish

it is just 5 to 6 inches long

cut up the shrimp to bite size pieces and dangle em in front of it. works for me.

I wouldn't worry so much. I find that gars want feeders around that size but once they get bigger (around 10 inch) they start to eat pellets and mp on it's own

Either get tongs or do it by hand get the food right in front of them. Or you can try dropping it right on their head. They should snap at it and take it. I have never had a hard time getting gars to take shrimp or fish fillets. A little effort on your part and you will be fine

Last night they showed more interest in pellets than before so hopefully they will convert soon. they still wont touch a frozen dried krill though

bigger gar in the wild tend to be scavenger, they eat mostly meat and can eat any kind of meat from live to dead and some rotten. So as the gar grow bigger, they will be easier accept the dead fish and pellets!

they may be more open to scavenging in the wild, but this does not mean they prefer/select it, nor does it apply to all species. gators will tend more toward scavenging than other species...FLG, SPG, SNG, LNG all prefer live food in the wild, so that generalization about scavenging is mostly incorrect.
furthermore, i would not encourage (nor necessarily support) the comment on them eating "rotten" meat...just because they will hit it on hook and line doesn't mean they should be fed those items in captivity. eating pellets and dead fish is a far cry from carrion and the like--
