08TRDOFFROAD's 45 Gallon Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, an ATO will be coming down the pipe. In the very near future. I have been adding about 64 oz of water morning and night since adding my MH's...it is getting old! Ha ha!

Got my order from Drs Foster and Smith yesterday. Opened it up when I got home form work. When I unboxed the overflow I realized it was missing the bulkhead...I live chatted with Drs Foster and Smith's customer service first thing this afternoon. They are sending out a bulkhead at no extra cost...I will have to wait another four or five days for it tho...but, overall I am pretty impressed with their customer service. They didn't hesitate to get a bulkhead on its way to me! I have the return pump from aquacave and my order from BRS on the back seat of my truck, I picked it up from the leasing office (because I missed the UPS guy inbetween school and work) as I left for work today. I haven't had a chance to unbox it yet....I will do that when I get home tonight.

I saw this happening...good idea. Will also be easy to run kalk later if you wanted to.

Bummer about the missing part...fosters is impossible to beat service wise I think as far as dry goods are concerned. Marine depot is dang good, but shipping is expensive...and they charge lots of increased rates for large or heavy objects which fosters doesnt do.

I will likely be running the level loc ato system that BRS sells. I will probably order it as soon as they have it in stock again! I like the double redundancy that the system incorporates to prevent a disasterous flood!

I received shipment confirmation on the bulkhead. I forgot I had a couple that came with my megaflow AGA kit when I bough my 90 g. But they are barbed bulkheads for vinyl tubing. I could use it and get everything running, but I don't know if vinyl tubing is the way to go over hard plumbing it with pvc... Any thoughts?

Are you using a CPR overflow?

The CPR overflow bulkheads are not standard sizes...so I dont know how you would hard plumb them. I am sure it has been done and there are resources on it...I just decided to make it as easy as possible and used PVC tubing for connecting drains to washing machines.

Put a piece of PVC in the bulkhead...used some transition cement there, and then slipped the pvc tubing onto the pvc and glued again.

Kinda noisy but it works.

I am running a Eshopps PF-300. My bulkhead has a barbed fitting right on the end of it. So there would be no problems with running the braided nylon tubing as my drain?

Yea...Im running something much more flexible and thin...braided would probably be quieter.

I have never used that overflow...I would do it with the tubing...its easier/faster to work with...but in the end your build will be quieter with PVC.

I am still waiting for the Slip bulkhead from Drs Foster and Smith that should have been included with the overflow, but I do have one on hand that is a one inch barbed...I think the deciding factor when I finally make it to the hardware store is the cost of PVC versus Tubing. I suspect that PVC will be significantly cheaper. Either way, hopefully I can get the sump running by the weekend.

Tubing will be cheaper for sure.

You will only need the tubing (already cheaper than pvc) no need for glue, primer, elbows etc.
