55gal Stand and tank build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have had the Fluval 204 and the AC 110 up and running for about a week now and the tank isn't exceptionally clear like i thought it would be. I have 13 juvi. African cichlids (all under 3inches) 3 clown loaches a(all under 3 inches) and i pleco who is 4.5 inches. Any ideas? The tank is next to a window but light from the window never touches the tank. I can't frieking see what i am typing, i hate the new MFK.

Any pics of how clear it is now?

My water is pretty clean but not crystal either. One of the reasons it might not looks as clear as others is because your tank is glass and not acrylic, a UV sterilizer might help as well

Just tested water parameters: Nitrate 10, Nitrite 0, Hardness 15,0 Alkalinity 120, pH 8. They haven't been eating great ever since i switched their diet from just hikari cichlid gold to that and NLS and Bloodworms

I have 2 canister filters on my 55g and I put the large car wash sponge on the intake because I had some angels spawning and the water has never been clearer. It looks like a fish tank in HD. Give it a try! Just cut to fit and cut a hole for intake with razor. What do you have in your AC110?

I wen to the grocery store and none of the sponges are aquarium safe. I then went to Walmart and i could not find any car sponges. So, what sponges are aquarium safe and where can i find them?

You need to buy the dollar store sponges...or pot scrubbers.
I believe all of them have no chemicals since they are so cheap, at least the ones i use dont.

Brand name? Pics of packaging please. Thanks

Just a note, you shouldn't be keeping clown loaches in that water. They come from acidic, soft water, and almost all are wild caught.

SO what do you recommend i do with the clown loaches, and i just saw this morning that 2 out of my 3 have a small case of ick. Would a 20 gallon be better for them? It also has a crushed coral sub. Also, would a whisper 10-30 be able to power one hydro v. i want to add more bio filtration after i ready you sponge sticky.

Home Depot $1.97 no brand name. You would call it a tile/grout sponge at home depot.

Your tank is probably cloudy because it is new and you threw a bunch of fish in it to fast. I would have recommended 1 fish a week.
