Petsmart Summr sale!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i went to my local petsmart yesterday..... only loaches they had were at $4.49 each.... :-/

Ya, same at my local petsmart. However, I managed to find an old 250 watt stealth heater in my spare equipment, so I traded it in. I also filled out the survey thing on their website so I got $5 off a purchase of $25 or more! In the end I was able to get out paying $3.39! :nilly: This is what I bought:
1 Pepsi (I was thirsty... )
6 Clown Loaches (4 oddballs)
1 Black Ghost Knifefish
1 Peacock Eel
1 Senegal Bichir

I plan on going back tomorrow when they get the new stock and picking up 9 silver dollars! :headbang2

Well, 4 of the loaches already died, and 1 isn't looking so great. I don't really know what happened either, water was perfect and the eel, knifefish and bichir all look great. :irked:

I'm thinking no more clown loaches for me. :(

Clown loaches need very clean water i believe, not saying that your tank isn't clean. Maybe you will have better luck with silver dollars. I bought 8 and only 1 die.

Lol don't get discouraged there is nothing wrong with your water if your knife is well and eating. It is my experience that loaches in general having almost no scales are very sensitive to water initially. They can adapt to just about any water condition, just need more time than the average fish, I highly reccomend a drip aclimation while it does seem overkill I had an experience where I lost a loach in near perfect water. LFS PH and my Ph were off buy alot, however I went back tried again, and drip acclimated, no loss. Same fish from same store, from same ph. Since then I have done the drip with great success.

I actually did do a drip acclimation. Since the four were dead I took them out and froze them, and as such am waiting till day 13 before I return them in case anything else dies. I don't think I'm going to replace them with clown loaches though. I am currently considering another bichir, as well as a blood parrot and even more silver dollars...

+1

if your eel is still alive then your water must be pretty clean.

Yep, clown loaches for me have been the hardest fish to keep alive. It's a shame because I really love them, cant think of too many shoals that look better.

But honestly from experience, buying fishes from Petsmart is pretty much a gamble. I got 8 silver dollars and 3 died so far :swear:
