Is this a good deal for a discus?

Yeah, I'd run away from that deal. Those guys look severely stunted. You can tell by the 'football' shape they have. Healthy discus should be nice and round. It takes a lot of effort to raise discus the first couple months to ensure they grow properly. And that's not something that LFS will do, or even breeders with low quality culls. I'd spend more for fish from a reputable source, or spend a little more and buy them as adults.

around me theres a guy who sells quality discus from 2-3 inch for $12 each its crazy and they are high quality

Personally I'm of the mind that buying a ferrari for your first car is not a good idea. Those aren't horrible discus by any means just not good ones. Unless you read about health issues related to slight stunting(I haven't) then I'd get 3 or so of them see if I like them as a fish then sell/give away the fish and get better stock in a year or two. I've had stunted animals before and as long as they aren't severely stunted (bent backs etc.) they where fine. Just saying maybe some slightly stunted cheap discus might not be a bad way to get exposed to the animal.

i decided against buying it...Im going on vacation for 2 weeks, and i dont really trust my bichir with the discus lol. Maybe ill get some in the future

I disagree with you there. Discus are not hard to keep, they just require a lot of maintenance(young Discus). Stunted fish generally do not live to their max life expectancy.. Also, starting out with GOOD stock makes a dramatic difference from keeping stunted/low quality stock. Healthy stock run into less health problems compared to the less healthy ones. Just my 2 cents.

Winnar! I was just seeing if I could figure it out....

Btw, I have about 11 discus and I know of a couple breeders in the lexington and florence area's....small drive, but prices are about the same and their discus look GREAT! Shoot me a PM and I will get you their info....

Interesting debate.....I have some that came from a breeder and I have some that are a little stunted. I know the difference just because I have been keeping fish for years, but any average person would prolly never notice. I may just be lucky, but I have never had any issues with the health of any of my discus. I have only been raising discus for about a year, but never any major issue. To me it is a matter or a pure breed dog versus a mutt. Generally on a pure breed you will pay more and get the assurance that it will prolly not have any major issue, but getting a mutt can be rewarding also and usually save you some money. I think it is all personal choice. Unlimited funds= all F1 or F0 fish....reality=I will take a little lesser quality and be happier cause I can afford to care for them.... just my $.02
