I recently adopted a two year old beagle. She listens very well in the house or around my yard when she isn't distracted but after she escaped twice this weekend and I had to chase her across some very busy streets. I'm considering one because she doesn't listen at all when shes on the chase or I'm chasing her. Any opinions? The lady who fostered her mention that she was trained with them.

One of my best friends uses it on his k9 police dog. Some might think its cruel, but if its for the dogs safety and protection then by all means. After awhile you wont even need to turn the collar on at all, dogs are smart, he will learn....

i think it would be a bad idea to electrocute the dog in open public. he would be stunned and would get hit by a car.

...its not like taze the dog its normally a beep than a small jolt that can get higher and higher if you want it..but no where near the levels to stun...that would be cruel

i used one when training my heeler when she was young...one beep...command...ignore ..one beep with a shock ..took her about 2 shocks and all i needed was the beep after that.

if it is for the dogs safety then do it...better you give them a little zap...than seeing your poor dog smeared on the street.

Beagles have a nasty habit of barking ALL the time. Also, their barks are extremely loud. I'd do it if I couldnt train him.
Ive worn a bark collar before when I managed a Petsmart. It actually got stuck on my neck. Luckily, one of my employees was there to help me by continuously pressing the button...
But they're not bad. After the first few zaps, they get the point.

Depends on which type you get. Some run amperage through their units, which can cause burns. Radio Systems (Innotek, Petsafe, and Sportdog) make very good units. I use a Sportdog 400 unit on my hunting dog. Anyone that thinks it is cruel, has not used one on themselves. They are very mild, and very effective training implements. I have shocked myself with my unit at full power, and other than having my arm move without my thought to move it, there was no pain, nor discomfort.

I'm really considering one for my heeler as well. She does not listen when she gets her sights on a little dog. She wants to hunt it. I've tried many things and nothing has really worked. I ordered a collar a few months ago and returned it cause I didn't have the heart to use it on her. Now that all of my other techniques have failed I'm going to purchase one. My mom had the fence style one for her lab. Didn't take him long at al to realize it was in his best interest to stay in the yard. OP I would do it if I was in your position. I bet you might have to use it less than 5 times since beagles are a little stubborn. Hope it works for you.
