and isn't a little too ironic... don't ya think?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sure dude, i'll ask my dad why he flew out of his windshield.....oh wait, he died! no joke there but lep, i often agree with your opinion but i'mma have to agree to disagree with you on the seat belt one.

when we're old and my kids get on mfk, please don't tell them your opinion on seat belt laws. lol

its all good buddy. we dont always have to agree.

i mean no offence, but when ur dad was ejected did he hit and kill someone else with his body or just him?? if just him than personal safety is what was the issue there not others. seatbelts often save lives, but if i dont want to wear mine i shouldnt have to. i had a buddy in HS that was killed cause of his seatbelt. abnormal? yep, but it happens. Iv seen some ejections that where nasty that the seatbelt could have prevented. A guy near here popped over a hill(air born) and hit a pole on the front passengers side. he did not have his seatbelt positioned correctly but it was on. he was half ejected through the windshield then stopped. the car rolled. as you can imagine, it did not end well.... While i agree it tends to be smart to where your seat belt, i dont want the gov telling me what to do, as it only affects me.

I do where mine and always will(except the shouldber belt in my dart, its on the ceiling folded up :D ) only because i tend to drive fast and it holdes me in place. lol.

i'm not one of those overly sensitive cry babies that we have on this site, i dont' mind talking about anything. i believe he was the only one that died, everyone else just had minor fender benders from defensive maneuvers. you're basically right that every accident is different with different factors. i should mention in his case the truck rolled, def not your typical accident

Just my personal feeling. I feel safer driving 120 with my seatbelt on then 20 without it on. Mainly due to my dad always forcing me to wear one when I was a kid.

I do have to agree there just have to be times when a seatbeat could cause death

I always force my wife to wear hers. She came from riding the bus all the time and Countries that don't use/enforce them

First, seatbelts are about money under the farce of personal safety. Not others. I have seen some nasty accidents and zero have had someone ejected into someone elses car. Period. Can it happen? Yeah but highley unlikly. Can u get struck by lighting walking out side? Yep. Should that be outlawed? Do seatbelts sometimes save lives? Yep. Do they cost lives? Sometimes. Do u hurt others if ur not wearing them? No.... But u give the nanny state money.....

Second, helmets help with low speed only. Any speed they dont do squat. Ask the guy I picked up off the road. U cant cause his skull is in pieces. Ps he hit the other car and flew into the windshield up high. Girl inside walked away with a mere scratch.
I bet if you asked, that guy would tell you that he wishes his vehicle equiped with a seatbelt like the other girl car!

It's not only for your personal safety. It's for others as well. When you got ejected from your car into the other car, you could hurt or kill other party. That's the reason why they don't require to wear helmet when you're outside your house. You could fall and hit your head, and nobody cares, as long as you hit your head.

What? There is nothing about this post that makes an ounce of sense. Are we talking about cars or bikes here? If bikes, perhaps you could tell me how a helmet on my head protect others? If cars, lets address some issues with your theory.

1. Windshields are designed to keep you inside the car in a collision. It would be very, very difficult, if not impossible, to be ejected through a properly installed windshield with enough velocity to be considered a dangerous projectile in a collision. If the windshield wasn't installed properly, it is possible for a human body to blow the WHOLE windshield out of the car, but that would be mechanical failure.

2. To be ejected from a vehicle in an accident in it most often through a side window. This is almost always due to barrel rolling your vehicle. If you were to barrel roll your vehicle, it is usually safer to be ejected anyway, because as long as your car doesn't land on you, there is one impact with the ground, and it is over. Thats a much better option than being stuck inside that washing machine on spin cycle. Thats multiple impacts, as well as the stuff flying around inside the vehicle.

3. If you were to roll your vehicle down the highway, I'd be willing to bet that the 4k lbs. of out of control steel would be the main concern... not the 200 lbs. of soft squishy body that MIGHT be ejected from the vehicle. By that theory, we should make it illegal to travel with a jack, spare tire, any luggage, etc.

4. A motorcycle accident will always result in 2, maybe 3, projectiles (bike and bodies). If bodies are such a big danger to others in an accident, why are motorcycles even allowed on the road?

I will say that seat belts do keep you in place, so you can better control your vehicle. However, in this country, we have speed limits that are set for a safe traveling speed for the road. If you are obeying all laws, you aren't feeling enough inertia to be thrown out of your seat, anyway. If you need to make an emergency maneuver, you could be thrown from your seat, but at that point, you are pushing the limits of your vehicle's capabilities, so anything is possible anyway. You could swerve to miss a kid chasing a ball, roll your vehicle, and be thrown from the vehicle saving your life from the jack handle flying around the cab.

I bet if you asked, that guy would tell you that he wishes his vehicle equiped with a seatbelt like the other girl car!

WTF does she care?

bottom line for me is, if i'm gonna be in any kind of an accident, i choose seat belt over no seat belt anyday

and for the seatbelt and helmet laws, sometimes you gotta protect people from themselves i guess?

I agree. I always wear my seatbelt, and when I get on a bike, be it a mountain bike, dirt bike, or street motorcycle, I put a helmet on. However, I'm a grown man, and I don't need mommy telling me I need to wear my seatbelt. I'll make that decision for my self.

Edit: the human race could use a little more natural selection, anyway. :D
