Gender of my JD?

Very pretty JD's! I had to give mine away a few weeks ago. (Too many tanks, and lack of space.) I'm still having withdrawl symtoms!

You definitely have one male and one female. As for breeding, they are both of size at this point. There is mixed info out there about how to breed them. Many JD owners simply find eggs or wigglers one day, rather than carefully adjust the chemistry and change up foods being offered.
I am trying to breed mine with no luck. This may be because I have multiple pairs in one tank. Again, it is speculation at best. My advice would be to give them clean water, quality food and time.

55 Gallon. Heater is set to 88 degrees F. I'm moving everything out except the pair. Pottery saucer next to fluval out side. (Did this today)
Orginally there were 3 plecos, a turtle and the pair. But it's just the pair now.

Why is the temperature so high? Are you treating them for ich or something?
The plecos were in the tank with the Jack Dempseys until today? It's possible that they laid eggs and the pleco ate them... they're notorious egg-eaters. Also do you have any decor/substrate in the tank? it looks like a bare tank from the pictures...

It is bare, that's why I got the saucer today. Yeah , I just learned about the pleco's egg eating habits today as well. I thought high temperatures promote breading behavior. I usually have it at 82F. What is suggested instead?
