So i noticed mosquito larvae in my top off water underneath the tank. My question is how do i keep them from breeding anymore? I have added a powerhead in there to keep the water moving. and also added a minimal amount of salt to it. Is there anything else i can do to be sure i will keep them from breeding?

Keep some guppies inside, they would eat those larvaes

Try a paradise fish or a blue gourami (depending on the tank's temperature).

The larva don't breed, only adults can lay the eggs that hatch into larva. The best solution would probably be a tight-fitting lid.

Ah, but if he doesn't put a lid, and puts a male and a female of most insect eating fish, then he will get fry. And even if he doesn't sell the fry, they make excellent feeders for other fish.

Unless he is keeping fish that would quickly eat the male and female insect eating fish before they could eat any larvae, let alone have fry.

I don't think he currently has fish in the top off water underneath the tank, although he hasn't stated if there actually are. Most people don't keep fish in the top off water though....

Very good missed that first line of the op :duh:

I keep my tank water in 1 gallon plastic jugs and a six gallon plastic water container. I stuff open cell sponge plugs into the openings to keep the mosquitoes from laying eggs in them. The sponge plugs were left from the small vials that I used to raise vestigial wing drosiphila (fruit fly) as fish food. They are pourous enough to let the tap water age properly and keep out the mosquitoes.
