LoL, If I am going to take a 2000 mile trip, it won't be for a fish convention.

Online registration is closed so you'll need to register on site. Here are details about the auction: http://www.ccadoesaca.com/auction.html

There will likely be over 1,000 bags of cichlids in the Sunday auction...and lots and lots of fish available from attendees prior to Sunday.

There is another auction for the rarest fish donated by Florida Fish Farmers (called the BABES auction) on Friday night. You need full registration for that one, though...

Matt

What is the BABES auction, is it any different than sundays auction? i would hate to bid and win fish on friday and not leave til sunday afternoon, what are your options if you win these fish, as far as picking them up when ready to transport them home? how are people selling fish all weekend, seems crazy to me! can ya explain ima 1st timer :)

The BABES auction is to benifit the CARES preservation if I remember correctly. It's not nearly as big, but all of the goods/fish are donated. If you buy fish on Friday, you'd have to setup a tank in your room. At least, that's how we've done it.

Purpose and Objectives of the ACA C.A.R.E.S. Preservation Program
The purpose of the ACA C.A.R.E.S. Preservation Program is to encourage hobbyists worldwide to devote tank space to one or more species-at-risk, while forming an information network between aquarists, scientists and conservationists.
The ACA C.A.R.E.S. Preservation Program has Four Major Objectives

  • 1. To bring AWARENESS to the critical situation of our fish in nature
  • 2. To RECOGNIZE and ENCOURAGE hobbyists who maintain species-at-risk
  • 3. To SHARE data and experiences through notes, graphing and manuscripts so that others may learn to maintain those same, and similar species
  • 4. To PRESERVE species-at-risk for future generations
For further information, please contact Claudia at ivyrose@optonline.net or Claudia@CARESPreservation.com
Click here for the ACA CARES Discussion Forum
We look forward to adding your name to the growing list! I am certain that with your help we can obtain our goal of placing every species on the list into at least one of your tanks! ...and then to learn that your species is herding a group of fry around the tank.....

You can rent a tank in the rental tank room (I think some are left, but you'll have to check when you arrive), you can set up a tank in your room, or you can set up a rubbermaid or bucket in your room.

rubbermaid + cycled sponge filter + air pump = tank

please explain, I'm curious just like freebyrd. I have these 2 Monster kok flowerhorn I wonder if I get better price if I sell them to buyers then putting it in the auctions. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?241-Mid-Atlantic

Not to disappoint you, but this may not be the best auction/convention to place your flowerhorns into. While there is no rule preventing you from doing so, you will find that many club members (regardless of club location in the US) are not in favor of hybrid fish. Flowerhorncraze.com in addition to MFK may be better places for you to consider if you have not already.

ok so I registered for the auction but there was no place to buy a bidder's card. I'm assuming this will be available at the convention?

also, I tried to register for the convention, but alas, I guess I missed the deadline. I'll be off at around 330pm everyday but saturday (and sunday off sunday), and saturday i may try to drop by before work (330pm start of shift). Can I just jump in on anything going on? The crown plaza is about 15 minutes from work and literally across the street from my old apartment building so I should be able to drop in.

Will there be nighttime festivities? My favorite bar in the area (Quarry house tavern) is about 2 blocks away and features a nice selection of trappist ales and rockabilly/punkabilly bands.

too bad. HR from bad brains lives about 15 minutes away. So does Brendan Canty from fugazi. Ian Mackaye can be sighted on occasion too. The black cat in DC has regular bad brains tribute nights. Just noticed the album cover in your avatar...

I dont have the time or finances to attend.

Luckily i live in Cincinnati, and it seems it comes to me once every 4 or 5 years.
