I had to give him away, as I think it stressed my male convict out in having to constantly fight off the much bigger firemouth to protect his fry.

The possibilities are : 1) the firemouth by itself would be nice : a full grown one is stunning; 2) the convict pair would also be nice if you are in the breeding thing; 3) the firemouth with a single convict could also work with lots of fighting and torn fins; 4) a single male convict; I also find them stunning when full grown with their hump.
