im waiting on one of these fish to arrive. has anyone kept them and is there anything you think i will need to know about them

Might have been an idea to check this all out before ordering one no??
As stack deck has pointed out there is some confusion of the true ID of these fish.
3 very similar species & a confusion over new & old names.
Pictures will definately help.
These fish could well turn out to be B. Rousseauxii / Flavicans in which case has a common name of Dorado Cat or sometimes Platinum Cat in respect of their platinum colouring.
Valianti should be much darker silver in colour.
These have the potential to be huge fish & if they're anything Like B.Rousseauxii then they can be jumpy & skittish certainly whilst small & until settled.
Provide the biggest possible tank you can for them with excellent filtration & current.
Dim lighting is prefferred, some big pices of wood, smooth stones that kinda of thing.
Water quality must be excellent.

Sorry if my mail read a little narky......had been reading some RTC posts on here about RTCs being kept with Neon tetras or baby P Bass & then people asking ...will they eat them??!! UNBELIEVEABLE!!

max size is about 1.5m so.....get a big tank

In one year in a tank he had gone from maybe 7" to 10". So, yes, very-very slow for a fish that is supposed to reach ~4' (PCF) or ~5' (FishBase). He's been living in a 1500 gal outside pond here in FL with me for another year and I have no idea how big he is now - I can't see him. Glimpses appear to indicate he has not grown much more, may be some but he is still small. I will pump the pond down in some months to re-home all the fish and will be able to give an update.
What are you getting... say, in inches per year?
