Where's all the Big Festae?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have definitely considered that Balton. Like all fish in any species, some co-exist, some don't. If you are willing to shift stock at times and keep trying, eventually you have to find a mellower fish (hopefully). I think I need to add a couple of larger top swimmers or maybe a cat or two though to act as a bit of a distraction. Normal dithers would probably just become a midnight snack for the jag now. I have held off spending money on fish for a while as I was saving for all the new camera gear. That being here now I can look at spending some more $$ on fish.

I couldn't agree more and your new camera gear kicks butt.

Not sure what the male is considered. Can someone tell me? His father was an F0 I bought from Jeff Rapps and his mother was an F1 bred by Rapps....and both of his parents were Equadorian. He's four years old this month btw, he hatched(?) in July 07.

I bought my female at 7" or so from my lfs so no idea but I'm sure she's from Equador. The Columbian ones have a lot of green don't they?

I was trying to find out the differences between collection points. The Ecuadorian and Peru strain if there are any variations, I have seen the ones that have a lot of green in the males and the females can vary a lot also. So you think Brent's would be typical of the Columbian strain? I'm was also wondering how much they vary from each collection point in there native countries. Do all Peru, Ecuadorian and Columbian look similar for the most part. I would assume so? Thanks for the info.

There's an example of F0 Columbian Festae in this thread:

I took this from the second post in that thread. He says he's disappointed with them. I think when that male gets bigger, it's going to look really good. It also looks like he's keeping it on black substrate which doesn't bring out the nice reds he wants. It darkens the fish up too much.

These were bought as wild caught Columbian Festae. I was pretty dissapointed with them. They never developed any nice reds and always looked rather dull greenish. I'm not sure what was up with them. The group they came from seem to have a very high percentage of deformities questioning their wild origin.
