Bronx, NYC
I've just recently gotten interested in African Cichlids, specifically Frontosa. I live in New York and I'm having the hardest time sourcing Fronts, it seems like just a few years ago they where all over the place. Mainly the 7 stripe Kigoma, but still they just seemed to be more readily available then. Now I've joined Cyphos.com and Frontosa.com to try and source vendors who sell Frontosa, but am coming up with virtually nothing. Of all the vendors on there only one seems to have any in stock and I'm having a problem working things out with him. He keeps putting off filling my order and it's starting to get very frustrating. I digress though, I'm not here to bad mouth anyone or whine. How ever I am here asking for help as I said sourcing Frontosa in the Tri-State area. I'm looking for someone selling some of the rarer Fronts such as Mpimbwe , Kapampa, Burundi and Bulu Point. I also prefer to get larger Fronts if possible, at least 4-6 inches, I'm not interested in 2 inch or less specimens. Does anyone know of any places I could try close to me. I'm not above driving a little so New Jersey and such aren't out of the question. Thanx guys in advance for your suggestions and help, I really appreciate the help.

Maybe try posting a WTB thread in the Marketplace. If we were closer i'd sell you my Burundi. Good luck!

S.I. Cichlids is close. Butch at AMS is good too, but he's in Georgia or somewhere. Also Greg at Littleafricaaquatics has good stuff, again you'll have to pay shipping. Good luck!

Thanx bro, it's too bad you aren't closer I'd definitely buy the Burundi off you. I seriously considered posting this as a WTB in the marketplace, but in my experience alot of those threads like this receive little to no attention. Unless it's a more common fish then everyone seems to want to sell theirs. I figured this was the best place since people truly passionate about Fronts probably fequent here and would also be more likely to be able to tell me where to source quality specimens, since they've probably used those sources in the past. Hopefully someone here will be able to help me out.

Thanx bro, can you tell me more about S.I. cichlids as you've said it was close to me, do they have a site can you provide me with an address. This way I can try and make my way there.

If ypour close to NYC you can go to Atlantis and get them. They also ship too. Very reputable place, I order from them.

If you are looking for great vendors then this is the place to ask about that, but if you are looking for what members have for sale, then per the site rules we want those threads in the market place. Most breeders are not going to have larger size groups for sale. They get rid of their fry when young. You will want to look to vendors.

"rarer Fronts such as Mpimbwe , Kapampa, Burundi and Bulu Point."

Also burundi are the most common type. Moba or Zaire types are the rarer type but can be found since they are in demand.

Thanx alot bro, I've checked into them online and plan on making a trip out to them to look around. I appreciate the help and suggestion this is the first I've heard of them. Then again I primarily keep CA/SA Cichlids and some oddities like Armatus and Curupira so I know more or less where to source them vendor wise, but this is my first venture into Africans.

Thanx for the suggestions and clarifying where I should post something like this. It looks like I made the right call then since vendors are definitely what I'm interested in sourcing. I knew there has to be vendors who just wouldn't show on an internet search but might specialize in Frontosa and I figured the best way to find them is to ask those in the know. People who've loved these fish for along time and know where quality specimens can be sourced.

if you have to go with shipping www.bluechipaquatics.com is an excellent place for quality wild caught fronts. used to be anyway.
Thanx alot bro, for the suggestion I plan on checking them out right away. I've heard of bluechipaquatics in the past, but never checked them out for myself.

I want to thank everybody whose helped by suggesting sites and stores. I'm very much a noob when it comes to Africans, and though I've done alot of research nothing compares to real experience. That's why I'm here asking you guys, people with real world experience. Also there's no better place to start then to then with quality stock. So if anybody has anymore suggestions I'd appreciate it as there's no better thing than having options to make sure you get the best specimens at the best price.
