Midas Vs Oscar - help wanted !

ok thanks btw are Flowerhorn on the same personality level as the FH's ? i think Flowerhorns looks better IMO so that another options its all about personality for meh :P can a male flowerhorn live with a few silver dollars ? around 3 SD

What size tank we talking?
 
+1 on the midas. As a person who was first enticed into the hobby by oscars, IMO they cant compare personality wise to Midas and other Amphs. No a flowerhorn will eventually, sooner rather than later, kill all your silver dollars, regardless of tank size. unless its really really huge and that would be a waste.
 
Midas imo are very personable fish as well as flowerhorns.. Both the midevil and the FH's will eventually dominate the tank in which they are housed.. I have a FH and a RD/midevil..Both of these fish earned their own tank..They refuse to get along with smaller fish or even fish their own size... I tried to put them in with the big boys in a larger tank and the big boys wanted to beat the crap out of them. So be prepared to have a solitary fish if you choose the midas,flowerhorn or the oscar for that matter..

IMO that's not a pure Citrinellum. Looks more Labiatum to me, but most likely a mix of the two depending upon where you purchased him from. That being said, I'd still keep him over the Oscar any day. I'd say Midas/Red Devil personality is right up there with that of FHs. Some people prefer the pure-bred however, and refuse to delve into the FH realm.
 
YESSS. Join the Dark side(Flowerhorns) lol. I kid. Flowerhorns are mixed with different species of amphilophus. IMO, Flowerhorns have beasting personalities. I no longer keep them, but if you want a glassbanger/something with color, go with a Flowerhorn. Oh, and don't even try to keep a Flowerhorn with Silver Dollars lol, I made that mistake a long time ago..
 
Oscasr eat alot .I would get a flowerhorn .They swim up and down the glass begging for for food ,but what matters is what you like.Midas is a beauitful fish too .The one I had was a picky eater.

I have to put my vote in for the oscar, I have been keeping cichlids for a while and started with oscars and then moved on to red devils, midas and eventually a flowerhorn. You start to get sick of picky eaters and super aggressive fish and I ended up going back to oscars that can be kept with other similar sized fish are very good eaters even fun to feed for that matter mines love to eat any insect in my wifes garden and are very active and colorfull, just my 2 cents
