Wise choice Midas are pretty common. I have a Creamsicle pair I have had for 3 yrs. I can only get cubans every blue moon here in columbus. Midas are everywhere!!!

Its hard to come by 100% Amphilophus Citrinellus... The ones at pet stores are hybrids ... So they are not that common...
i have a cuban...bought him for four bucks too at 1.5 about 3 now.... been trying to get a midas without ordering from rapps or a specialty hobbist for years.... currently keeping two prospects....one seems to be headed down ye old red devil road already...sigh almost back to square 1
Well, I mean anyone can get one at any time from pretty much any Cichlid vendor... Common in that regard AND a lot of people have them.
Cubans are in the same vote most cichlid vendors carry them.. Even my lfs carrys them... but iits hard to come by a true midas at any lfs
Thanks, I wouldn't know I can't get either locally. The closest "LFS" I have is petco.
True pure cits are not common in a LFS and I think they look much better then their hybrid cousins.
First thanks for the compliment I do love my pair. Why don't you want to order from Rapps? As I have said before there is no "LFS" near me so any local fish I get are usually petco fish. That being said I have never even seen texas cichlids at a pet store and they are supposedly common fish. All my cichlids I usually order online so as far as online, cits are very common I see them everywhere. I can't tell you how many threads I have seen here alone where people are trying to sell babies or even large breeding pairs.

Like I mentioned before all cichlids I usually buy online so as far as commonality I have seen them everywhere. For a while it seemed like everyone had cubans for sale which is around the time I got mine but that died down a little bit. I have certainly never seen them in any of the LFS I have gone too so I know that I have a good chance that a LFS will take cuban fry. I wouldn't trust a LFS if they said they had pure Cits anyway. I would only trust a reliable vendor so I know they are pure.
I don't want people to think I like the cubans so much more than the midas. It was a very hard decision for me but I felt given the circumstances the cubans would fare better in my tank. Regardless of commonality or color.

Cubans definitely aren't hard to come by in my house. I have over 50 right now.
It all comes down to what he wants in his tank. I personally think he made the right decision. I would much rather have a pair Cubans at this point. Good luck with them.
