Hello, i am wondering what medium size cichlids (4-7 inches) will be compatible and will fit in a 55 gallon rectangle aquarium, i found out that a local pet store now has salvini cichlid. these are some cichlids i am interested in for a 55 gallon

male salvini cichlid (6)
female convict cichlid (5-6)
female pink convict cichlid (5-6)
male keyhole cichlid (4)
male firemouth cichlid (6)
green severum (8) (any gender)
blood parrot (8) (any gender)

so which of these fish will best get along together in a 55 and how many can i fit in a 55 gallon with 2 senegal bichirs?

additional questions
how many 6 inch cichlids in a 55 gallon?
how many 8 inch cichlids in a 55 gallon?

thanks! :D

its all a learning process and ive been there. and the more ive learned the more i appreciate a cichlid in a proper sized tank. glad you found a salvini as they are gorgeous cichlids.

i agree, i have a few questions, i have decided i would like a male salvini, a male firemouth, a keyhole cichlid ( i don't care about its gender anymore, won't be able to sex it anyways),
and a convict (male if possible) because i sort of like the male's appearance better and it will be easier to name.

1. will a male convict be compatible with 2 senegal bichir, a male firemouth, a male salvini and a keyhole cichlid?
2. can i feed salvini, convict, firemouth, and keyhole cichlid live earthworms, live black crickets, live grasshoppers, and live moth?

thanks!

You are pushing it on the stocking. I don't know how hard you are willing to work on your tank or how high nitrates will effect the bichirs, but your cichlids will develop hith if you don't keep up on the water changes with your heavy stocking. I would possibly on add one cichlid with the bichirs and if you want to guarantee being able to see your cichlid I would go with the convict because the others tend to by shy fish. Make sure your cichlid or cichlids are large enough in the beginning not to be eaten by your bichirs. JMO
