I gotta agree with snakefin, crushed walnut is one of the worst substrates out there. I would NEVER use it for any of my critters. Just buy some play sand since they live on sand to begin with and call it a day. Millet bedding is a better choice as well.
 
he hasnt fully colored up in weeks,is there any reason this would happen?temps are fine
 
Well my beardie doesn't puff out his beard anymore...hasn't in the past two years. Suppose it's just cause they settle in to what's going on round them, and they don't stress out anymore

Every substrate has an impaction risk yes. But your case does not make sense because we are attempting to achieve both a naturalistic looking tank, as well with a substrate with a lower risk. That's the whole point. Given your description, I guess your Uro is brainy enough, and so were your friend's plated lizards.
