Worms in most aquariums. What????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if you have gravels then yes. if you have sand then no.

sometimes harmless sometimes harmful.

having gravel gives parasites and potential harmful worms a place to side.

most likely due to left over food that gets under the gravel uneaten then forms worms.

your saying that leftover food forms worms? :screwy:

Maybe, you're thinking of just flake food and pellets? There are many different items that can be fed to fish (e.g. fruits, live worms, frozen beefheart, and insects).

Planaria. Do a google search on them and you will find a lot of info. They aren't the end of the world. I had them in my 270. I've seen some sites that recommend treating them by adding salt and other treatments...I personally wouldn't go there. Just vacuum your gravel frequently and feed only what your fish will eat in a few minutes (no leftovers).

They probably come from the pet store also. It's very easy to get planaria. Best thing to get rid of them is slow down on your feeding. It only takes ones to get a whole bunch b/c one can split itself into two.

I have never had any worms in my tanks, other than blackworms. lol I put them there on purpose though.

Noooo....I've never HAD planaria, or worms as you call them. lol

My planted tanks haven't either. I guess you "heard" wrong.

They are not planaria. Why does everyone assume when someone says they have a worm that it is planaria. From his description they are NOT planaria. They are a nematode/detritus worm and completely harmless.
