Monster Fish collection change of heart

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've been keeping fish for a while. And often thought this was Monster Fish Keeper's. By the looks of what some of you are saying, this now seem to be. Every Day Fish Keepers

Because this site isn't strictly for keeping monster fish. It is about every day fish keepers that have a monster passion for the hobby.

Hello; Good to know. I was not going to quit the forum, but it is nice to be welcome. I sometimes read but do not participate in threads that are strictly about big fish. I hope this helps the big fish only members feel a bit better. The big fish were appealing during my early days of fish keeping. I have become fond of planted tanks which cannot be had with many of the large fish. I took in a large common plecostomas a year or so ago from neighbors that lost their home. I kept it in a bare bottom tank with only hornwort plants. The fish thrived but was not as interesting as my heavily planted tanks with a variety of the smaller fish. I recently found a fish shop that took the pleco from me when it got to be about 14 inches.

I like keeping both monsters and small-less-stress types of fish at the same time. Really helps because you get the best and worst of both.

x2.

In my case, what I thought would be least stressful fishes to maintain turned out to be the most stressful. I maintained my Cuban gar (which can be very sensitive to water parameters) for months with no problems whatsoever yet I couldn't keep a neon tetra alive to save my life!

No point keeping them if they give you stress. I keep and run over 300 tanks and have for years in a few different country's now, I still find $1 cherry shrimp or $500 Monsters relaxing to watch , I think the Key is alot of tanks ( if you have time and loot to maintain them ) that way there is always something else to look at / do :D

yea im like that. i feel like waterchanges are like walking the dog. im doing two 50% water changes a week

How boring would MFK be if every single person kept the same few monster fish?
That is very true, not many people have monster fish and if only people who owned monster fish joined it would be a rather small and dull site but with such a nice mixture of tastes and set-ups everyone can learn something new. I know I do every single time I log on. It's why I joined.

Thanks for the post. I have been impatient waiting for mine to grow. I swear it seems like I have a ruler to the tank every other day, lol. Maybe I should just relax and enjoy them while they are small. So my problem is on the opposite side of the spectrum!
