Need urgent help... really sick GT

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was afraid of that, as mentioned above the acute form comes on very fast & there is usually very little chance of saving the fish.
Here's to hoping that he pulls through.

He's not going to make it.. It would be best to try treatment for maybe one more day.. then think about putting him down. :( Hopefully he gets better.

From what you posted I think he has the chronic form as the white parts are not spreading the sma espot is more swollen...

I would not think of putting him down so fast he is not showing signs of death yet he is not laying on the floor or breathing heavily... he stays in one spot but he can still swim... Im going to give this guy a chance..

This is hard to watch. :(

I hope he makes it!

Start looking out for your other fish, someone said it's contagious(I know it's in a qt right now, but who knows, some may have caught it before he was moved).

Yes, the bacteria that caused this will still be circulating in the main tank even though you have removed this fish.

Moving that fish to a hospital tank was a good idea, and while some believe that Flexibacter columnaris is always present in aquariums, personally I would treat your main tank as well which if nothing else will knock back the bacteria numbers that are currently present.

Agreed do a large cool water change first and the treat the tank as directed. Flexibacter columnaris is nasty remember to lower the temp to around 73 this stuff loves warm water and increase oxigenation, tetracycline is great for this and will kill the columnaris bacteria but will destroy your BB too, It is easy to find however and can be used in the hospital tank. I didn't see this thread until now or I would have jumped in sooner. Two easy to find meds are Tetracycline and Jungle Tank Buddys fungus Clear used in combination will kill columnaris. Good luck.
