How is it possible to NOT have a sub-forum in ancient fish for Amia Calva?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Osteoglossiformes do deserve a forum in ancient fish as they are ancient fish... Knifefish needs to be correctly defined as the current definition adds Non-ancient with ancient. The best solution would be to combine Mormyrids with Featherbacks into Aros...Bony-tongues... I have always found it ammusing that the few species of Featherbacks somehow makes all "knifefish" ancient.. Really it is just the 10 species of Bony toungue knife fish that make them so.. And oddly few seem to keep those fish.. Yet here we have Bowfin in limbo......

Featherbacks should be added into Aro's along with Morymrids.. Knifefish should be eliminated.. Most of the talk on knifefish is about the Charicin forms and not really ancient at all.. Get the featherfins out and link with Aro's.. Add Bowfin to Gars.. They are a natural fit.. Why the opposition to this??? I'm not sure. Means nothing to you Mods as we the users add the content you do not.. all you do is shuffle stuff...and then complain a whole lot any time we make you do work. Just do your job it was what you where elected to do.

Might be good idea to just listen to the tribe....

Yay for convergent evolution and common names to cause improper groupings of fishes on here! :grinno:

What would the proposed new Osteoglossiformes sub-forum be called? The "Arowana, Featherback, & Elephantfish" sub-forum? I mean, the mods would want the new sub-forum to be both properly organized while still being relatively n00b friendly, so I bet that calling it the "Osteoglossiformes" sub-forum really wouldn't fly with them and using distinct common names would be preferred.

Also, what would be your ideal sub-forum composition for the "Ancient Fish" forum? I bet that we can get these changes made if we have good enough reasoning and evidence behind them (which we do).

How is it possible that the second most ancient TRUE MONSTER fish in North America is somehow able to avoid having a sub-forum.

Damn that sucks that the almighty Bowfin can not BUY an ounce of respect even from a website calling itself "MONSTERFISHKEEPERS.COM".

WTF?

Grumpy says: I get No Respect here on MFK. No respect I tell you!

Please set the grump up with his own stage to "star" on!:naughty:

is he yours? i want one so bad

MODS - please see our last several posts in the gar forum poll as well.

getting into the knife fish and sturgeons and all that stuff is off topic and just going to create too much of a headache.

to address the original issue in this thread, the simple (and correct) solution is just change the name of the gar subforum from "gars" to "gars and bowfin". simple.

several of us are open to further discussion on this if necessary, but really it's a quick adjustment!--

i asked for one a couple months ago they say there isnt enough traffic

The traffic issue (while understandable, is also confusing concerning some of the dead sub-forums on here) is exactly why we don't need a sub-forum. Changing Gars to Gars and Bowfin eliminates the worry about traffic. In fact, the gar forum could only become more active with its eighth cousin added in.

Seems like win-win to me.

Exactly it is a win-win and at the same time is something that requires little or no real work to do.
