Osteoglossiformes do deserve a forum in ancient fish as they are ancient fish... Knifefish needs to be correctly defined as the current definition adds Non-ancient with ancient. The best solution would be to combine Mormyrids with Featherbacks into Aros...Bony-tongues... I have always found it ammusing that the few species of Featherbacks somehow makes all "knifefish" ancient.. Really it is just the 10 species of Bony toungue knife fish that make them so.. And oddly few seem to keep those fish.. Yet here we have Bowfin in limbo......
Featherbacks should be added into Aro's along with Morymrids.. Knifefish should be eliminated.. Most of the talk on knifefish is about the Charicin forms and not really ancient at all.. Get the featherfins out and link with Aro's.. Add Bowfin to Gars.. They are a natural fit.. Why the opposition to this??? I'm not sure. Means nothing to you Mods as we the users add the content you do not.. all you do is shuffle stuff...and then complain a whole lot any time we make you do work. Just do your job it was what you where elected to do.
Might be good idea to just listen to the tribe....
Yay for convergent evolution and common names to cause improper groupings of fishes on here!

What would the proposed new Osteoglossiformes sub-forum be called? The "Arowana, Featherback, & Elephantfish" sub-forum? I mean, the mods would want the new sub-forum to be both properly organized while still being relatively n00b friendly, so I bet that calling it the "Osteoglossiformes" sub-forum really wouldn't fly with them and using distinct common names would be preferred.
Also, what would be your ideal sub-forum composition for the "Ancient Fish" forum? I bet that we can get these changes made if we have good enough reasoning and evidence behind them (which we do).
