Still Going To LFS You Don't Like?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I shop at The Pet Place very often.. not as often as I used to though.

They are just over priced, and the thing that just erks me the most is when they ask the "what size tank do you have" when I'm buying a frikkin tetra.

I once seen them turn down a sale of guppies for cycling a tank, and the lady told them they should get hatchet fish instead.. not to mention their hatchet fish NEVER stay alive after like 3 days.

The have a juranese catfish in there marked as a Tig for $350 @ 7". Any person who knows what a tig is, will know that this isn't a tig. Rip offs.

$50 for a turquoise severum, when I can go to petsmart and get the same thing for like $10. $150 for a 3" Indo Dat!

Their prices for freshwater fish are outrageous most of the time..

Thats sad.TPP used to be a great place for fish and supplies and I thought they used to have the best prices.I noticed the drastic change in prices though the last few times I was there, their datnoids always seem to be over one hundred dollars no matter the size or type.I've never had anyone inquire about the size tanks my would be purchases would be going into though.Good thing the place is almost two hours awayfrom me,I only go there maybe twice a year.

They are only 45 mins from me.

But it's gotten to the point where some times they have no idea what they are talking about.

I remember when I first got into turtles, I called to find out if they could get me a DBT, but they told me they are native, and therefore illegal.. They aren't native to PA and not illegal.

They also do not take fish in for trade/store credit. They will have no issues taking your fish and selling them, but they wont give you anything for them.

My store is the same way, were selling sterbai corydoras for 8$, I had a bunch of 1-1.5 inch babys that I raised and asked if they would give me store credit for like 3$ a pop, they said no but would be happy to take them from if I cant find a buyer...greedy

Yeah, most stores here have taken that policy as well. There is ony one store here that will still take in fish for credit and that depends if the right floor guy is there.

Yes there is one here that I sometimes go to. I absolutely hate their service. Their idea of giving discounts would be like $5 off $1,500. The fish are poorly cared for, and the aquariums do not receive water changes on a regular basis. The only reason it's worth going to is because they get fish that are out of the usual. If you are lucky enough to catch them before they start torturing them, the prices are negotiable due to the fact that they often don't know what they're selling! :naughty:

I get in... and get out... avoid looking directly into anyones eye... and don't talk about my tanks. They have what I need.. but.. My husband has introduced me to Amazon.com... mwahaha..

over priced, under priced it is all relative u don't have to buy the fish but if u are willing to pay the price they are asking u can't really complain about it

True statement, but I doubt anyone here wants to pay $250 for a 14"ish TSN with no whiskers and contorted fins. That same fish has been at that store for over a year.. when are they going to learn. :shakehead

Here's another story about that lfs (I'm not giving the name as it's just free publicity for them) I don't like...

I saw that they had a Lapradei. It was probably around 7" I've been wanting one for quite some time and I asked how much it was since it wasn't marked. He told me $40. I'd figured I'd wait it out and see if he'll drop the price since I didn't think anyone would be interested in that Lap any time soon. It looked like a trade in. When I first found this place, the guy told me he didn't do trade ins or take fish from hobbyist because he didn't want to deal with parasites and/or disease, but I started to think that since this was the only Lap they had and it was fairly big compared to fish size they would normally carry, it must've been from a trade in. So a month and a half went by and I asked him again...$40. I waited another 3 weeks and told him to bag it up. He tried to charge me $55:eek: I told him that he said $40 last time I asked. He then tried to tell me that the market value for this fish went up and he needs to keep up with the market value...now if he really did buy this fish for resale and he bought it before the market value went up, it still wouldn't have affected his profit margin since he got it before the price inflation:screwy: I ended up getting it for $40, but not after we gave each other a hard time about it.
