Still Going To LFS You Don't Like?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
See.....This I can understand, and that makes perfect sense.

But I have litterally seen guys not buy a fish that they have waited and looked for FOREVER because it was $10 more than they wanted to spend. That I just don't understand.

Reason why I waited was because I wasn't in too much of a hurry to buy one. I've been wanting one, but needed to make some room before I could get it. There are a couple places I go to where they give good deals on trade ins and lowers the prices if no one takes it within a few weeks. A little over 4 months ago, Rainbow Pet shop in Arleta had an 7"-8" Royal Pleco that they were selling for $40. Now that's a deal;)

The thing that bothers me most about going into a LFS is when they grill me on what's in my tanks, and then have no idea what I'm talking about when I respond :screwy:

Get that all the time.. That is a piss off. It's like, person: "oh that's nice.." while you're thinking: "you have absolutely no idea what I just told you.."

I don't think I've ever been into a LFS that didn't do at least one thing that bothered me. I've experienced everything people have mentioned in this thread as well with different shops at different times. I'm moving more and more towards ordering fish and supplies online, which I don't enjoy because I like supporting local business. But how am I supposed to support you when 90% of the time you're just trying to screw me out of money? :(

Just thought of another one. A LFS in the same city as the last one....

I bought a large SAE from a LFS - had it for almost 48 hours, and it killed one of my eels (ate the slime coat off him). I took it back to the store to return it, and they said they couldn't give me my money back because SAE tend to be mean when they are large like that, so they don't like to take them in at that size. Now granted, I should have done the research before buying the fish in the first place (lesson learned) but the employee that sold it to me didn't say anything about them having a mean streak - and less then 48 hours later I tried to return it in perfect health and they wouldn't give me a refund. But they had like a 5 or 6 day guarantee on their fish, so if I would have killed it and brought it back in I would have been given a full refund... WTF MAN?!?!

I do have one fish store that has NEVER called me back on ANYTHING.

I wanted to buy like 20 gallons of bio-balls, and they didn't have them in stock. They took down my phone number, and what I wanted, and said they'd call me back with a price. NEVER heard back.

Went in there again, and asked if they could order some cichlids in that they didn't have in stock. They took down my number and the species I was looking for. They told me they'd give their breeder a call and see if they could get anything in for me. NEVER heard back from them.

Freaking hate that.
