Hey all, I've recently seen some Peacock Bass for sale in my area going for really cheap. After seeing the photo I am not sure if they are healthy... can any experienced keepers inform me if I should buy and try saving them?

Apart from looking obviously skinny from not being fed, their eyes look kind of big for the body size? Are they stunted? Thanks in advance.

they are for sure not happy, a static picture is hard to tell, but I would say that they are not feeling well. I am looking at the fins, and they looked like they are tucking them close to the body, that's not normal behavior for a happy healthy fish. Now give them a good feed, and that might change... Colour seems a bit off too, but that could very well be the camera..

It's hard to say if they are too far gone , underfeeding will make the eyes look big as there is less tissue around the head , poor fish.

ouu you could save them & how much is cheap? These are some monos well the one on the lower pic is but idk about the one above. They look ok if you do get them feed them until they get fat again and they might be fine again i would try but if you dont have much experience with pbass don`t waste your money. Are they pellet trained or what were they being fed?

Thanks for the quick response doc. They are currently going for 1/2 the price so I would love to take these guys home asap, hopefully they look more healthy in real life than the photo.

Think they are not sick, just under feed and stress out.....color also pale....if bring back and take care should be ok in 1-2weeks time.

When I went to have a look at these guys in real life I asked the previous owner if he could feed them just to see if they were eating, he told me he didn't have any food to feed them with . Obviously neglected I couldn't bare to watch these guys suffer anymore so I took them home. So far they have ignored all foods I have tried feeding them (prawns, frozen bloodworm, pellets), I resorted to live feeders as a final option which they are eating. I'll post some pictures in the near future hopefully when they are more healthy.
