What kind of mechanical filtration are you using in your sump? I've tried soo many different ways to set my sump up and am never satisfied with the clarity.

if i told you my secret of what i have in my sump then it wont be a secret... lol

The reason I have some many is that they are what is running on my old tanks..the bargain with wife is that I get my large tank but get rid of my others. I have 3 eheim 2028 already running and I just bought the sunsun...I figure each canister should handle roughly 100 gallons(each "rated" about 160 gallons). If it is not enough, I can add another fx5. The tank I am getting is not drilled and I will not be drilling anything...As for fish, I will be keeping african haps.

just add a fx5 and use it for bio while u use the other canisters for mech.

You can still run a sump without a drilled tank...I use a overflow box on my 220 and it works perfect :)

i am a filter freak i love to over filter, but i also hate spending tons of cash .. i went with 4 rena xp4's and 2 rena xp's in my 300gal.. to be honest if i was younger and a bit smarter i would have looked into more efficient ways to filter my tank .

Are you serious? Your keeping a secret on how to keep water clear???... Anyway, im working on filtration on the same dem tank. So far i have a 40g sump. I'm going to be adding a fx5, but going to run it on the sumo, and hopefully that will be enough for some ornatum and festae..

I know you said you couldn't run a sump.. that's a shame i think that would be your best bet.. but if you add the fx5 to ALL those canisters your should be fine. In my opinion that's a lot to clean :/

fine fine... i mainly use aa grade japanese matts from coarse to fine half and half with the addition of 2 thick filter socks on each drain.also i have about 3-5 lbs of purigen under a flosser right before the return and in the other chambers live plants and bio balls and ceramic rings for bio filtration along with some other minor stuff... oh ya i have about 8-9x return and run a cls system....

btw you could run a sump on a tank thats not drilled... all you gotta do is order a HOB overflow box and etc and you can run a sump w/d system...

Yeah, one of those tanks you will be shutting down could be a sump host and no drilling to your tank would be needed.I have tanks ranging in size from 125,180,to now 265 and have never had them drilled, pre or post....The hang on skimmer boxes are good enough.

There you go tomo way to be a team player... But if i may ask what is aa grade Japanese matts

aa grade is the quality of the item and japanese matt is a filter media. look it up you can find multiple different grades & etc.

I agree, thats what ive got on my growout tank.with my pbass.. I was using alot of filters to run it prior to installing my sump, and since installing it, my water is amazing, as well as my prior filter issues with waisting money have all but stopped..
