Agreed! Very Nice indeed

For the benefit of ALL raykeepers alike...I would love to chip in to have that ray properly autopsied.

Al- Where could you send the ray? How much would it cost?

I know that it would be very well worth it to ME to know what happened here...Who else would be interested in helping us all learn?

I think these odd happenings need answers. Too many of these end up with no answers..and then we read later on that the same thing is seemingly happening to someone else. SO If we can all chip in now...for an answer that could save our butts later, then it would be well worth it.

I know my LFS has a marine biologist on staff and I live cose to MSU...but I'm way over here in Michigan...

Al Check Clearwater guy's sig I don't know ya but ya look to have a good heart Brotha ...WHEN YOU GET KNOCKED DOWN ,YOU ARE LIMITED TO ONE OF ONLY TWO CHOICES!!!!! Hope ya choose the one i am pullen for...Hugh...

I PM'ed Al.

I would guess a full necropsy would be roughly $250-300, had a fish done a while back (saltwater angel) for about $200. I would like to see it go to the University where LJ (Kolossus) had his arowana for surgery - U of MN I think. I would be willing to kick in a good chunk of change to cover this, we just need to make sure the specimen is handled the way they want, my angel had to be no frozen and shipped on ice.

Geez guys, not sure what to say..... I appreciate the condolences and the willingness for you guys to help. That in itself really means a lot.

Let's start with this..... I mentioned someone contacting me in regards to the meds I have. That person spent a grip of money having autopsies done. There was multiple universities involved. What the found was something that was immune to salt and Metro. I am not even sure exactly what it was, all I know is I was told the med to use. I am not at liberty to discuss in any further detail as this is NOT my info and it is not my place to pass along others' findings without thier permission.

I was pre warned that my rays may already be too far gone and apparently that is correct as my female checked out soon after medicating. I get home from work yesterday and the remaining 3 Discus are toast. The female that had appeared unaffected the entire time now has the front of her disc white. Doesn't look good. I bailed on the med. Flushed the tank and opened up drip this morning. The things were eating before med. Know the med will knock them off food but it appears they are too weak to run a full course of treatment.

As far as autopsies..... The 2 rays I already lost were frozen. Maybe I need to look into getting my hands on some fermeldahide.

I'm sorry that I haven't gotten back to many of you but it's pretty tough for me to keep up here and attempt to keep these guys alive. I work on commission and we've been crazy busy at work so I'm ready to pass out before I get home, after several hours of feeding, observing, moving, and changing water it's been very tough for me to maintain work and fish let alone here too..... I haven't forgotten about anyone and hopefully can get caught back up somewhat this weekend.

It would be up to the University to say if the freezing would affect what they are looking for, but it would be harder to find live parasites and it would be harder to make a culture of any suspected infection. I think formaldehyde would be worse than freezing. If you contact them, let us know. Any one of us might need to be prepared at some point.... We all hate to think it though.

I agree, as 'fresh' of a specimen as possible would be the best. I would guess it would hardly be worth sending in a frozen or formaldehyde specimen. Hopefully you will not have any more pass and this will be a none issue.
